Iran: Election candidates warned against rowdy campaign events

NCRI – The Iranian regime’s deputy police chief has warned presidential election candidates against staging public celebrations.

The comments by Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Radan are the latest sign of growing panic in the regime that the election campaign could trigger public protests.

Radan told the state-run Mehr news agency on Thursday: “Some candidates are already acting like they won.

“The State Security Forces are doing their job by maintaining order until the election, and we expect candidates to do the same.

“We haven’t yet been informed about any planned street parties for confirmed candidates, but they should know they need permission before they can hold public celebrations.

“If candidates begin their campaign before their competency is approved, and trouble breaks out at the public meetings, those involved will be arrested.”
