U.S. House Speaker: Iran deal legitimized nuclear program

Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, has hammered the Obama administration for the recent nuclear deal with Iran’s regime, saying the agreement legitimized Tehran’s nuclear program instead of dismantling it.

“I think it was a terrible deal. Worst in our lifetime,” said Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican. “Iran got billions of dollars in sanctions relief, and in exchange for what? For taking apart some – not all, just some – of its nuclear program.”

Republican lawmakers also have criticized President Barack Obama for failing to properly punish Iran’s regime for repeatedly defying a United Nations ballistic missile test ban, The Associated Press reported. A group of Republican senators last week introduced legislation to impose stricter sanctions on every sector of Iran’s economy that supports the country’s ballistic missile program.

“I don’t think it’s an accident that every few months we hear of Iran launching yet more ballistic missiles,” Speaker Ryan said on Monday.

Rep. Ryan added the U.S. ought to counter the Iranian regime’s “aggression in Lebanon, in Yemen and in Syria.”
