Twitter CEO tells Rouhani let Iranian people use social media platform

Hassan Rouhani’s use of Twitter during making an speech at the United Nations General Assembly made the social media platform CEO to ask the Iranian regime’s president when will the Iranian people be able to use the platform that has been banned in Iran since 2009.

Responding to the tweet barrage, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo told Rouhani that he’d love Iranians to enjoy their president’s tweets, and asked him when that will become possible.

With access to Twitter and Facebook officially banned in Iran, Iranians have to find other ways to bypass the state’s Internet filtering system.

This is while many officials of the clerical regime, including Rouhani and Ali Khamenei, use the microblogging platform to tweet messages in English.
