Time to act against Iranian regime – Norwegian FOFI committee

NCRI – The Norwegian branch of the Friend of a Free Iran committee welcomed the decision by the U.S. Administration to blacklist the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the Qods Force and a dozen of other IRGC terrorist affiliates, in a letter to the current EU Presidency.

The committee suggested, "To avoid war, Europe and the United States should push for an Iranian solution, i.e. relying on the Iranian people and their democratic opposition movement."

The letter quoted Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, who described the U.S. move as “indispensable to thwart the export of terrorism and fundamentalism to the Middle East region, in particular the regime’s meddling in Iraq and to prevent the regime from obtaining nuclear weapons.” It further quoted Rajavi saying, “This is a clear testament and a necessary prelude to democratic change in Iran.”

The letter ended by calling on the EU and U.S. State Department to remove the terrorist designation of Iran’s main opposition groups, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI aka MEK).

The president of the Norwegian FOFI, Lars Rice, former member of the parliament added in the letter, "A bipartisan majority of members of the U.S. Congress and more than 1,000 members of national parliaments in Europe rejected the designation, which they said was meant to be a goodwill gesture to the Iranian regime." He concluded by calling on the EU presidency, José Sócrates, Prime Minister of Portugal, to act now against the regime.
