Thousands of Iraqi protesters demand Martin Kobler is sacked

NCRI – Thousands of Iraqi protesters have demanded the sacking of the United Nations envoy Martin Kobler at a demonstration in the city of Samera.

They also called for international monitors to ensure that forthcoming elections in the country are not rigged.

In a report broadcasted by Iraq’s al-Taqeer TV on Friday. that a spokesman for the protesters said: “We are on the verge of having elections. We witnessed fraud in the last elections and we will not accept the same thing again.

“We demand international supervision over this election. The world must know that we won’t accept the result without monitoring.”

Protesters than unanimously voted with a show of hands for the replacement of Mr Kobler, the UN representative in Iraq.

The spokesman added: “I want you to raise your hands and call out together for Martin Kobler, to be replaced.

“We all demand his replacement. We want a representative who will listen to the demonstrators and protesters. He has proven to the people that he does not stand for transparency.”

“Martin Kobler does not fight for justice and the rights of the demonstrators. He does not want to convey the demands of the protesters to the world and international organizations. We demand his replacement and we demand international observation over the election.”

Demonstrators at a separate protest in the city of Ramadi also demanded the expulsion of Mr Kobler from Iraq and accused of complicity in the crimesof prime minister Nouri al-Maliki’s crimes.

They said “Martin Kobler is Maliki’s associate in violating human rights in Iraq,” al-Sharqiah TV
