Sheikh of Al-Azhar conditions his visit to Najaf to departure of Iraq from Iran

Iraq

The International Az-Zaman daily reported that Dr. Mohammad Mahna, Advisor to the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, noted in his remarks to the paper that during the recent visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister to Cairo, he also met with the Sheikh of Al-Azhar.

In response to an invitation by the prime minister to visit Iraq and speak with the religious scholars in the Iraqi city of Najaf, Dr. Ahmed al-Tayyeb, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, stated that such a visit has to be delayed until the departure of Iran from Iraq, the daily reported on January 17.

According to the daily, also in his meeting with Dr. Sheik Taysir al-Tamimi, former Chief Judge of Palestine and the Head of the Arab-Islamic Committee for Defense of Ashraf, the Sheik of Al-Azhar voiced his opposition to the meddling policies of the mullahs’ regime in the internal affairs of other countries, particularly the Persian Gulf states.

Its noteworthy that in a letter from scholar Jalal Ganjei, Chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Religion of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, to the Sheik of al-Azhar last month, it had been reiterated: “The role of the fascism ruling our homeland Iran that regrettably masks itself with the veneer of religion and revolution in expanding the waves of jihadist terrorism is all so direct and extensive. And these atrocities, before being exported to Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, Yemen and some African nations, were committed against the Iranian people and its ethnic and religious minorities and even against the Shiites in Iran.”
