NCRI – Air pollution killed 4,600 residents of the Iranian capital Tehran in 2014, a regime official has admitted.

Rahmatollah Hafezi, chairman of Tehran City Council’s Health and Environment Committee, told the state-run Tasnim news agency: “According to figures from the Ministry of Health, 4,600 Tehran residents died last year from diseases caused by air pollution.

He also asked the government’s air quality control service to publish the secret results of their pollution investigations.

Air pollution has become a major public health issue in Iranian cities in recent years. The regime is accused of refusing to devote the necessary resources to reduce pollution and improve air quality in urban areas.

Reports indicate that Greater Tehran, with a population of more than 12 million people, is one of the most polluted mega-cities in the world.

Ahwaz, Kermanshah and Sanandaj – the capitals of three provinces in the west of the country – are among the most polluted cities in Iran.
