Political prisoners attacked in Ward 350 of Evin prison

Evin prison entranceNCRI – On Wednesday, October 14, two henchmen of the Iranian regime provoked 150 ordinary and dangerous prisoners in Ward 350 of Tehran’s notorious Evin prison to attack the cell where political prisoners are being held. The henchmen, known as mullah Roghani and Moslem Najafabadi, used the pre-planned measure to instill an atmosphere of terror and fear for the political prisoners. Ward 350 is where dangerous prisoners are held in Evin. The regime’s hated Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) transfers political prisoners to this ward in order to break and harass them.

Roghani is a cleric who was imprisoned for unethical behavior and fraud but after he agreed to participate in the torture and suppression of political prisoners, he was released and now works as one of the torturers. Moslem Najafabadi is also a charlatan who began to serve the clerical regime’s suppression and torture apparatus while in prison.

The attack on political prisoners was planned two days earlier in a two-hour-long meeting at the prison’s Protection and Intelligence Office which was attended by the prison governor, Ward 350 warden, and an MOIS torturer. In accordance with the plan, in exchange for agreeing to attack political prisoners, the assailing prisoners were promised various incentives such as temporary release and reduction in their sentences.

The night before the attack, the cleric-turned-torturer Roghani provoked the prisoners in a so-called religious sermon where he called political prisoners “monafegh” [literally meaning hypocrite, a term used by the regime to refer to the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran – PMOI/MEK] and said murdering them would be morally permissible. After the sermon, while chanting slogans against political prisoners, the participants began to march towards the political prisoners’ cell. The assailants attempted to enter the cell and trigger physical violence.

The Iranian Resistance brings the horrific situation and the systematic suppression and torture of political prisoners to the attention of international human rights organizations and authorities, and demands the adoption of immediate measures for saving the lives of political prisoners in Iran.
