The recent Iran nuclear deal does not eliminate the possibility of a Weapons of Mass Destruction attack by the regime in Iran, as a recent chemical weapons attack in Iraq showed, the New York Post wrote on Monday.
“American officials not only say ISIS used mustard gas on Kurdish forces in Iraq last week, but that the chemical weapons came from Syrian government stockpiles,” according to an editorial in the paper.
“That would be Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s stockpiles — the ones that President Obama says his diplomacy eliminated.”
“Back in May, the president proudly noted, ‘Assad gave up his chemical weapons . . . That, in fact, has been confirmed by the organization internationally that is charged with eliminating chemical weapons.'”
“Hmm. Where else is Obama counting on an international outfit to crack down on a weapons-of-mass-destruction program?”
“The pretense that inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency can keep a whole country honest is far from the only flaw in the Iran nuclear deal. But the Syrian failure makes it a pretty telling one.”
“Oh: The Wall Street Journal reports, ‘US officials also suspect the [Syrian] regime may have squirreled away at least a small reserve of sarin or VX. Use of those chemicals would raise greater international concerns because they are more deadly than chlorine and were supposed to have been eliminated.'”
“Anyone care to bet on how much ‘greater’ those ‘international concerns’ will wind up if the Iran deal goes through?” the editorial added.
