Norwegian MPs question the country’s Foreign Minister for inviting the Iranian Foreign Minister

Oslo, (NCRI) – In the beginning of May, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki traveled to Norway and met with Norwegian officials. This trip coincided with extensive protests by Iranian dissidents, Norwegian Parliamentarians and political and human rights figures in the country.

Hundreds of Iranian supporters of the Resistance demonstrated along with the Youth Organizations of Liberal party, Progressive party, Christian party and Conservative party in front of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry to angrily protest the invitation of Manouchehr Mottaki, the Iranian Foreign Minister accused of kidnapping in Turkey.

They shouted: “Mottaki is a terrorist, criminal and kidnapper…he must be arrested.”

Following this demonstration, Norwegian political organization and media protested the government’s decision. On Tuesday May 29th Norwegian members of parliament from both Liberal and Progressive parties called on the Foreign Minister, Jonas Store and inquired about the reason for inviting Mottaki.

The Parliamentarians stated that inviting Iranian regime’s officials at a time when European countries, United States and United Nations are preparing to toughen sanctions on Iran will send the wrong message.

The Foreign Minister reiterated his concern about the human rights violations in Iran and his wish that the unreasonable course stops immediately. He said the Norwegian government does not forget Iranian regime’s human rights violations under the shadow of their nuclear program.

In an interview the Norwegian Foreign Minister said: There is no reason for us to listen to and believe this regime when they are ignoring all the calls by Europe, United States and United Nations to halt their nuclear program.
