• Woman in Tabriz attacked with acid

According to local reports, a 37-year-old woman in Tabriz ، Norhwestern Iran, was attacked with acid yesterday in the city’s Fahmideh square. The attacker, who has not been yet identified, threw acid on the face and legs of the victim. In previous years, bassij and other paramilitary groups with ties to the regime have staged similar attacks against young women in various cities of Iran.

• Strikes continue in Baneh, joined by public protests

On Monday, April 23, the strikes that started in Iran’s western border provinces over increased restrictions on imports continued in various cities. In Baneh, Kurdistan, which was among the first cities where the strikes started, shop owners and merchants continue to refuse opening for business.

Afraid of growing tensions and the possible eruption of widespread protests, the Iranian regime has tried to frighten and intimidate merchants and force them to reopen their shops.
On Monday, the people of Baneh joined the merchants in their march toward the governor’s office in the city.

• Workers At Qazvin Foolad (Steel) Company Protest Expulsion Of Colleagues In Takestan, Iran

On Sunday, April 22nd, more than 200 workers from the Qazvin Foolad (Steel) Company gathered in front of the Takestan Governorate in Qazvin Province, Iran, in protest to the expulsion of their colleagues.One of the Qazvin Steel protesting workers said: “Since yesterday morning, factory managers refuse to pay at least three months of wage and salary due to shortages of funds and prevented about 100 of our colleagues to enter their workplace.

• Retired Laborers Stage Protest Demanding Retirement Claims

On Sunday, April 22, 2018, a group of retired workers of Western Alborz Coal Mine located in Gilan Province gathered in front of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization Building (IMIDRO) in Tehran, Iran.

The retired workers also gathered yesterday in front of the Iran Minerals Production and Supply Company (IMPASCO). They demanded the authorities to meet their unfulfilled retirement claims.

• Iranian regime officially bans use of cryptocurrencies

An Iranian newspaper says the country’s Central Bank has officially banned the use of cryptocurrencies in financial transactions in order to “prevent crimes such as money laundering and terrorism.”

The move is seen as part of Tehran’s efforts to control the currency market after the rial hit an all-time low earlier this month.

Monday’s report by the Donya-e Eqtesad daily says the ban applies to “all monetary and financial centers of the country,” including banks, financial institutes and currency exchange offices.

• Tehran MP Accuses IRGC Intelligence Arm Of Violations

Tehran’s representative in parliament has criticized the intelligence arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), accusing it of rights abuses.

In an open letter reformist MP Mahmoud Sadeghi has called upon IRGC intelligence director, mid-ranking cleric Hossein Ta’ib to “revise his style of management,” noting that his subordinates ignore the legal standards set for investigations and neglect the legitimate and lawful rights of detainees.
