Iraqi MP: PMOI presence in Iraq is legal

Ashraf, IraqNCRI – On April 11, the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai reported that Falah Hassan al-Naghib, an Iraqi Member of Parliament and former Interior Minister, underscored the need for legal guarantees for protection of members of the Iranian opposition group in camp Ashraf north of Baghdad.

He called for an “international commitment to find a solution for the continued presence of members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Ashraf.”

The report added Mr. Fallah al-Naghib “highlighted pressures by the Iranian regime on the Iraqi government to expel these refugees” and added, “the presence of this organization in Iraq is legally protected.”

He also said: “National reconciliation was the most important issue addressed by President Barack Obama during his meeting with Iraqi officials in Baghdad. The Americans fear a security chaos after their exit from Iraq and this has prompted President Obama to concentrate on national reconciliation in the course of his visit to Iraq’s capital.”
