Iraqi Lawyers call on UN to replace Martin Kobler

NCRI – Head of the Iraqi Lawyers association said Martin Kobler, the UN envoy in Iraq, instead of standing on the side of the oppressed and the victims, is standing on the side of the executioner.

Al-Shemri called for replacement of Kobler with someone who is concerned with human rights, Iraq TV Al-Shraqiya reported.

“We expected the work of UN envoy in Iraq to be professional and stand on the side of the victims not executioner, he added. But now from Kobler’s statements we realized that his reports are mostly against reality of the human rights situation in Iraq.”

“We ask the UN Secretary General to replace Kobler with an independent human rights advocate who can perform his duty and the Secretary General on behalf of other organs of the UN could address and investigate his envoy’s work. In our view, his remaining in Iraq as the UN envoy is essentially violation of human rights.”

The head of Iraqi lawyers association condemned the wave of executions in Iraq and said: “Most executions in Iraq are carried in unclear circumstances, the investigations are fraught with irregularity and violations and most of those who are executed are forced to confess under torture.”

The head of Iraqi lawyers association added: parties involved prevent lawyers from initial investigation in the investigating organs. The role of prosecutor is a dead role. He can see the signs of torture on the body of the accused but he cannot do anything. Most of those whose death sentences were carried out are the victim of false reports by informers.
