Iraqi and Arab lawyers and tribal leaders condemn al-Maliki’s human rights abuses

NCRI – Iraqi lawyers have united to condemn widespread human rights violations of Nouri al-Maliki’s government in their own country at a congress in Istanbul.

The Crime and Human Rights Violation Congress, also attended by lawyers from other Arab nations and Iraqi tribal representatives, also called for international and regional support for the victims human rights abuses in Iraq.

Delegations from the popular movement in al-Anbar and Mousel also participated attended the congress, where Abdulqader al-Nael, spokesman for the protesters in al-Anbar Province, said: “The crimes and human rights violations practiced by Maliki against the Iraqi people is a disgrace to those who claim that Iraq is ‘new’ and ‘free’.

The call was echoed by Sheikh Abdulrazaq al-Shemeri, spokesman for the political office of Ramadi’s protest movement, who also demanded an end to government-sponsored oppression.

The congress also urged that complaints of torture by the Iraqi government must be collected and handed to the special commissioner of the United Nations to that the public be made aware of the crimes being carried out by Maliki’s government.
