Iraq: Basra residents stage protest against Iranian regime

NCRI – The people of Basra staged a protest against the Iranian regime’s invasion of an oil field at Fakka region, al-Baghdadia TV  reported on Monday. The protestors announced that the Nouri al-Maliki government has not done anything serious to counter the invasion, and demanded a strong position by the government against the violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.

“We want Iranian forces to immediately withdraw from the occupied well. We won’t allow anyone to occupy Iraqi soil,” said one of the protestors.

A row over an oil well on the Iran-Iraq border triggered against Iranian regime across Iraq, angry statements by politicians accusing the Government of supporting Iranian regime.

Another protestor: “We want to send a message from Basra to the Iranian regime through these protests, which is: We reject the occupation of Iraqi soil. We also condemn remarks made by the Iranian regime’s ambassador, Kazemi Qomi, who said they want to form a committee to determine the borderlines, because Iraq’s borders have been clear since 1958. We think the Iraqi government policy is incredibly weak, and it has not taken a firm stance. Even within the Parliament and government there are people that agree with the Iranian regime’s policies.”
