A report released on Sunday by the United Nation’s Assistance Mission for Iraq, known as UNAMI, says at least 1,375 people including 790 civilians were killed in January 2015.

The report said at least 790 civilians were killed and 1,469 others were wounded in violence. Baghdad was the worst affected province in January with 256 killed, while Anbar suffered 195 casualties.

From 1 January to 31 December 2014, UNAMI had recorded a total of 12,282 killed and 23,126 injured. The UN mission cautioned that the real toll could be higher.

“UNAMI has also received, without being able to verify, reports of large numbers of casualties along with unknown numbers of persons who have died from secondary effects of violence.”

Figures compiled by the health, interior and defence ministries put January’s toll at 1,408 dead and 2,008 wounded, including troops as well as civilians.
