Iranian regime’s role in Iraq is diminishing, according to Iraqi politician

NCRI – A member of the State of Law coalition in Iraq has called on the Iranian regime to act as a responsible neighbor when it comes to the security and stability of Iraq, al-Hurra TV reported on Wednesday.

Ezzat Shabandar said in an interview with al-Hurra that the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraqi politics and security is not a secret. The regime wants to shape the politics of Iraq in accordance with its own agenda and interests, he said.

Shabandar added that Iran’s role throughout the past four years has gradually diminished for various reasons, including the domestic situation and the regime’s relations with the international community.

He said another reason for the diminishing role is that the Iranian regime’s political allies in Iraq are pursuing personal and party agendas that do not necessarily go with Iran’s views.
