QUETTA: A dead body of an Iranian national was found hanging from a tree in Mashkail town of Balochistan, security officials said on Tuesday. The township shares a border with the Jalk district in the Iranian province of Sistan-Balochistan.

“The body bore multiple marks of torture. The man was hanged to death,” Assistant Commissioner Asghar Syapad said.

Later, the body was shifted to a hospital in Dalbandin, around 150 kilometres from Mashkail for an autopsy. The deceased was identified as Mohtaj Ubair, a resident of Sistan-Balochistan.

Ubair was visiting his relatives in Balochistan when he was abducted. According to Mashkail administration, he was kidnapped from Chagai district as he entered Pakistan from the Taftan border.

An official said, “Ubair’s remains will be handed over to members of his family after the legal formalities are completed. An investigation into the murder is under way, he added.
