NCRI – While education, construction and developmental, and health service systems as well as a number of other civil services are facing shortage of funds in Iran, and according to the regime officials even the adopted development budget is not realized more than a few percent, Iran regime’s parliament agreed to increase military spending in the coming years.
Under this decision, it was agreed to increase annual military spending from 2% to 5% in the total budget under the framework of the sixth program.
On Monday, January 9, Iranian regime’s Parliament adopted several provisions of the sixth program legislation, the so-called development legislation, according to which the government is required to take action to “Develop and Increase Missile Production Capability.” In addition, Members of the Parliament obliged the government in their meeting on Monday to allocate every year “at least five percent of the public budget resources” to “Increase Defense Capability.”
According to state-run ISNA news agency, during the review of the sixth development program legislation, this bill was adopted by 173 votes in favor. Guardian Council must now vote for the bill to legalize it.
It should be noted that the U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231 requires Iran regime to “avoid from any activities related to ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads, including the use of technology related to missiles, for eight years after the nuclear agreement and first day of JCPOA implementation.”
Earlier, Ban Ki-moon, (former) U.N. Secretary General, in a report to the Security Council member states, urged them to oblige Iran regime to avoid Ballistic missiles tests.
