Iran: Qom Seminary Teachers in crisis due to infighting within the regime

NCRI – The Iranian regime’s largest clerical body is on the point of disintegration as rifts widen within the theocratic regime, a senior cleric has revealed.

Mohammad Yazdi, the head of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, said that the organisation ‘began disintegrating’ during the recent presidential election.

Yazdi told the state-run Mehr news agency: “To prevent further divisions, I called a private meeting of friends and several members of the Guardian Council to halt the rift in our society.

“We even informed seminary students that the Society of Seminaries was about to be dissolved and a new society formed. Fortunately, this disaster was prevented.

Yazdi admitted to feuding between clerics in the society, which was caused by increased infighting between Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s supporters in the years the since the 2009 uprisings.

He added: “Allies of Ayatollah Mohammad Taghi Mesbah Yazdi said this special meeting was illegal and its members did not make up the majority.

“These remarks damaged the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom.”
