Iran: Ahmadinejad claims his election in 2009 was rigged

NCRI – The Iranian regime’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has claimed he has taped proof that his election four years ago was rigged by the regime.

Ahmadinejad said he won 16 million votes in the 2009 election – but officials boosted his tally to 24 million to ensure he rose to power, the Baztab website reported.

Ahmadinejad has now vowed to publish the tape – which hugely discredits Iran’s electoral process – if the regime blocks his own preferred candidate Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei from standing in this June’s election.

The Baztab website said the tape states: “In order to prevent the election from being seen as rigged, and to create a large margin of votes over his rival, his votes will be announced as 24 million.”

In the tape Ahmadinejad is then heard telling officials they should not falsify the vote and announce his rally tally of 16 million.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei announced Ahmadinejad had won the election on June 13, 2009, and his victory by 24 million votes was later confirmed by the Interior Ministry.

Baztab wrote: “There are several possible explanations for this tape. Either it is fake, and is being used as a psychological weapon against the Guardian Council.

“Or it is genuine, and Ahmadinejad is accusing both the Guardian Council and the government of tampering with the vote.”

A few hours after publishing the revelations of the tape, the story was suddenly and inexplicably removed from the website.

Ahmadinejad’s claims are the latest indication of his growing feud with the Ayatollah.

Last week one of the president’s senior aides was arrested for ‘moral and financial crimes’. Ahmadinejad is also warned on an almost daily basis to curb his ‘seditious’ comments about the country’s rulers.
