In Baghdad, US military capture cell leader with Iran links

Baghdad (DPA) – US-led coalition forces said in a statement Friday that they captured a high-ranking "special groups cell leader" during a pre-dawn raid in Baghdad.

The cell leader is suspected of coordinating logistical support from Iran, and is also believed to have directed attacks against multinational forces in the past.

According to the statement, the arrested suspect, formerly an Iraqi police lieutenant, is believed to have close ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards known as the Quds Force.

During the arrest, an exchange of fire between joint US and Iraqi forces from one side and militants from another led to the death of at least seven militants and six Iraqi policemen.
