• World Cup 2018: A billboard in support of Iran is criticized for excluding women

Social media users in Iran criticised what they saw as implied gender discrimination by excluding women from the picture.

• UN chief: Parts of missiles fired at Saudi Arabia came from Iran

UNITED NATIONS: Debris from five missiles fired at Saudi Arabia by Yemen’s Houthi group since July 2017 “share key design features with a known type of missile” manufactured by Iran and some of the components were manufactured in Iran, UN chief Antonio Guterres wrote in a confidential report to the Security Council.

Amnesty International calls for immediate release of Nasrin Sotoudeh. In its statement issued on June 13, 2018, Amnesty International called for the immediate and unconditional release of Nasrin Sotoudeh, prominent human rights lawyer.

Amnesty International announced, “The arrest of Nasrin Sotoudeh, a prominent Iranian human rights lawyer, is an outrageous attack on a brave and prolific human rights defender.”

• Yaresan women brutally beaten up in Qarchak Prison

Yaresan women imprisoned in Qarchak Prison of Varamin were badly beaten up and brutalized on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, by special prison guards using batons and shockers.

The incident happened after a number of inmates jailed on ordinary crimes were incited by prison officials to cause tensions and prepare the grounds for subsequent quarrels.

The families of Yaresan women (Gonabadi Dervishes) have been gathering outside Qarchak Prison in Varamin but have not been allowed to visit or contact their relatives.

• Coalition liberates parts of Hodeidah

HODEIDAH: With land, sea and air support by the UAE Armed Forces, the Arab Coalition and the Joint Yemeni Resistance forces began on Wednesday a decisive military operation to liberate Hodeidah city and its strategic port from the grip of the Iranian-backed Houthi militias, who rejected peaceful solutions.

The forces managed to liberate new strategic areas in Al Duraihimi district and areas adjacent to Hodeidah airport after penetrating the Houthi militias frontlines. Following the collapse of their defences, the Houthi fighters abandoned their positions, while their commanders fled the areas after the defeat.
