French President Francois Hollande will visit Iraq on Friday to provide Baghdad authorities with needed tools to fight ISIS, the presidency office said Tuesday.
Hollande would head to Iraq on Sept. 12 in a bid to “support Iraqi authorities to fight effectively” against ISIS, protect civilians and restore the rule of law throughout the country, the French presidency office statement said without giving further details.
Iraq’s parliament Monday elected Haider al Abadi, as the country’s prime minister, approved nearly all of his proposed cabinet.
Abadi put off until next week a vote on defense and interior ministers.
