Former Iraqi PM blasts Iranian meddling in his country

NCRI – Former Iraqi prime minister Dr Ayad Allawi has condemned Iranian regime’s meddling and influence in his nation’s affairs.

He also branded the United Nations Iraqi envoy Martin Kobler as a ‘complete failure’ and urged him to quit or stop interfering in issues beyond his job description.

Dr Allawi said of Iraq in an interview on Wednesday: “The political process in the country is in a dangerous situation.

“The government must be for all people, not just a particular religion or group. However the most dangerous issue is that the Iranian regime has conquered and makes political and strategic decisions for Iraq.

“I know full well that the Iranian regime controls Iraq by interfering in its politics. Whenever, during the elections, after the elections or at any time, a political issue regarding the strategy of Iraq is mentioned the Iranian regime immediately interferes.

“For example, if the issue of a no confidence vote for the council of ministers comes up, the Iranian regime has a clear interest in rejecting the decision. When we win the election, the Iranian regime also has a blatant role. Our efforts continue, and the Iranian regime still has a leading role.”

And he said of UN envoy Mr Kobler: “He has failed. Martin Kobler has failed. I met him two weeks ago and made him two proposals. To resign, or leave Iraq and go elsewhere to work on human rights issues and not to interfere with issues that are beyond his capacity. This man has completely failed.”
