EU should adopt stiff measures against IRGC – International Sakharov Committee President

EU should adopt stiff measures against IRGC - International Sakharov Committee PresidentNCRI – In a letter to Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, Hans Kristian Neerskov, President of the Danish committee for "Friends of a free Iran" and President of the International Sakharov Committee called for EU’s firm policy on Iran and sanctions against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

"The number of executions in Iran, often public by hanging or stoning, has dramatically increased, bringing the number of executions recorded since the start of 2007 to at least 250, a number which exceeds the 177 executions recorded in 2006," the letter stated, expressing deep concern over the dramatic increase in repression in Iran over the past year.

"It is beyond any doubt that Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps IRGC bears the main responsibility to maintain repression inside Iran," FOFI President said welcoming "United States decision to targeting IRGC and its elite Quds forces as terrorist organisation."

In his letter he reiterated, "We support democratic change in Iran domestically by the Iranian people and their Resistance. This democratic solution to the Iranian problem is the only practical way of preventing a crisis in Iran and the region."

In conclusion he called on the EU Presidency urging "all governments of European Union to adopt stiff measures against IRGC to curb the current wave of repression in Iran and prevent further terrorist activities outside Iran which both are carried out by IRGC."
