Diyala provincial council wants Iranian regime to respect Iraqi sovereignty

Iraq, DiyalaNCRI – In an extraordinary session, the Diyala Provincial Council underscored respect for Iraqi sovereignty and non-interference in the country’s affairs and rebuked all sorts of aggression against Iraq,” the al-Baghdadia TV reported on Tuesday.

Al-Baghdadia TV reported said: Violation of Iraq’s borders by the Iranian regime is a measure that generates unfavorable consequences in Iran-Iraq relations and signals a new change that drains bilateral relations of trust and stability.

Members of the Diyala Provincial Council underscored the necessity of quickly resolving this crisis faced by the Iraqi people, because such measures heighten Iraq’s domestic and security crises.

Diyala province extends to the northeast of Baghdad as far as the Iranian border. Its capital is Baqubah. It covers an area of 17,685 square kilometres (6,828 sq mi).

Camp Asharf, which is located in eastern part of Diyala province, is home to some 3400 members of Iranian opposition group the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
