Azerbaijan demands information on citizens arrested in Iran

(Azernews) – The relevant state entities continue working on the release of research fellow of the Institute of Literature of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, Khalida Khalid, head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration’s Social and Political Department Ali Hasanov told media on May 13.

“The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expressed its position in this regard, and is engaged in this issue,” he said.

 

Research Fellow of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature, Orientalist Khalida Khalid and her assistant Shamhal Huseynov were arrested in Tabriz on April 30 by the employees of the Iranian Ministry of Information Security and Intelligence, the Iranian media reported earlier.

The Azerbaijani Consulate General in Tabriz immediately sent a note to the Iranian Foreign Ministry in connection with the detention of Azerbaijani citizens in Iran.

In the note submitted to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the Azerbaijani Consulate General demanded to immediately clarify the details of detaining Azerbaijani citizens and give the information on their location.
