Iran: Suicide of desperate inmate in ‘medieval’ Bandar Abbas prison

NCRI – A prisoner has committed suicide in Iran’s ‘medieval’ Bandar Abbas prison after suffering two years of abuse and filthy conditions.

Ali Soleimani, 30, tried to kill himself in desperation at his inhumane treatment and lack of access to justice, it was reported.

His cell mates discovered Mr Soleimani bleeding to death on March 30 and he was rushed to the prison medical clinic where he later died.

Bandar Abbas Prison, in southern Iran, is notorious for its appalling conditions and mistreatment of inmates.

Prisoners are given only two small loafs of bread a day, and the water has been described as ‘opaque, smelly and undrinkable’ and has caused digestive, kidney and other diseases for the prisoners.

The electricity is out for much of the time and there are only 2 hours of hot water a the day for hundreds of prisoners to take showers.

Other reports from inside Iran have revealed repeated beatings and physical and mental torture of prisoners during the current New Year holidays.
