CPID Statement

At a meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 in the Colbert Hall of the National Assembly, the Parliamentary Committee for a Democratic Iran (CPID) brought together MPs from political groups, experts and representatives of the Iranian opposition to discuss the situation prevailing in the Middle East and particularly the role of Iran.

The session was opened with a welcome speech by the President of the majority group in the parliament, Bruno Le Roux. The CPID’s president Dominique Lefebvre (SRC) and vice-presidents Michel Terrot (LR) and André Chassaigne (GDR) hosted the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as the guest of honor at the conference. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi spoke in particular about the wave of executions taking place in Iran, saying: “These executions point to the regime’s instability. The regime’s paranoia over concerts and theatrical performances reflects its fragility as much as its imprisoning of young bloggers, poets, cartoonists, journalists and filmmakers reveals its instability.”
At this meeting, a senior representative of the Syrian National Coalition Nazir Hakim emphasized the role of Iran behind the aggravation of the crisis in Syria. Dr. Alejo Vidal Quadras, former Vice President of the European Parliament (1999-2014) and President of ISJ (In Search of Justice – an NGO based in Brussels), presented his report “Islamic Fundamentalism and Terrorism: Solutions & Illusions”. The jurist Tahar Boumedra, a former head of the Human Rights Office of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, exposed the “Human rights situation in Iran: a challenge for international law” through a study published in October on the occasion of the World Day Against the Death Penalty.

Lawmakers who addressed the event supported the positions of CPID, which announced an appeal by 70 members of the National Assembly.

The text of that declaration is attached to this press release.
