Mark Williams MP: UN, U.S. must ensure protection of Camp Liberty

NCRI – Mark Williams, a Member of Parliament from the United Kingdom, has urged the United States, European Union and United Nations to ensure the safety and security of thousands of members of the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, or MEK) in Camp Liberty, Iraq.

The mullahs’ regime in Iran is “by large the world’s largest executioner per capita,” Mr. Mark Williams MP told a major conference in Paris on human rights in Iran on October 10 on the occasion of the World Day Against the Death Penalty. “We have gathered today to express our firm support for the democratic aspirations of the Iranian people.”

“The mullahs in Iran are executing people not only among the Iranian territory but also beyond that in Camp Liberty. Because in their eyes the camp residents, the mere existence of that camp, the people committed to end their theocratic rule, they are considered as people ‘waging war against God’ and hence are sentenced to death.”

“The three deadly attacks on the Iranian refugees and opposition members in Camp Liberty since [Hassan] Rouhani, the so-called great ‘moderate’, the ‘reformer!’ took office is nothing less than the implementation of more such death sentences. Slaughtering 52 innocent and defenseless people in Camp Ashraf on 1 September 2013, rocket attacks on Camp Liberty and the medical siege of making people suffer until they die are indeed forms of death sentence.”

“The regime is preparing the grounds for legitimizing the death penalty in Camp Liberty by sending gangs of proxies under the pretext of being family members” to the camp to harass the residents, Mr. Williams said.

“The crimes of the mullahs inside and outside Iran are easy to understand. They have an endless appetite of killing innocent people in order to safeguard their power. What is not easy to understand is why is it that the US and the UN and the EU ignore the seriousness of the situation in Camp Liberty and in Iran? Do they really find it that difficult to comprehend the death sentences being issued by the mullahs for Camp Liberty residents or do they have no guts to stand up against the crimes committed in the camp? This is a fact that the regime’s appetite to continue those atrocities both at home and abroad have indeed been fed by the shameful policy of appeasement towards Tehran pursued in the last decade by the EU and the UN and most recently of course in the nuclear agreement. The mullahs have not been held accountable for their crimes.”

“So with special focus on Camp Liberty I want to use this opportunity today to urge the US, UN and EU to act to their obligations towards the security, safety and wellbeing of the residents of Camp Liberty and prevent further murders occurring in the camp by announcing that camp as a refugee camp under the supervision of the UNHCR to ensure that the dossier of Camp Liberty will be dealt with someone in the Iraqi government with no ties to the Iranian rulers and remove this ridiculous show of so-called families from outside Camp Liberty going to Liberty having no purpose other than further executions.”
