NCRI – Six people have been sentenced to having their hands amputated by a court in the Iranian city of Shiraz.
The barbaric punishment would be carried out once confirmation was received from the head of the judiciary, Shiraz public prosecutor Ali Alqasi said.
He also insisted that despite claims from their families, the victims were ‘criminals’ and not political prisoners.
Alqasi said: “The verdict of the amputation of the hands of six people has been issued and we are waiting for the response of our correspondence with the head of judiciary, so that it will be carried out very soon.
“We do not have any political prisoners in Shiraz and they are criminals that are in detention, but their family members are trying to portray their arrests as political.
Many opposition activists and members of religious minorities were arrested in the months ahead of the June presidential election.
In recent months, one man had his fingers amputated in pub in Shiraz after being convicted of robbery.
