Record number of arrests in Iran

NCRI – The religious dictatorship has carried out 13,000 arrests in the first six months of the Persian year (starting March 21) in the northern province of Gilan alone, under various pretexts such as confiscation of satellite dishes and combating noise pollution and violations of the dress code, the state-run news agency Fars reported on November 16.

At least 1,099 women are among those arrested on the charge of “mal-veiling”. Another 35,578 underwent street interrogations.

Separately, the judiciary chief of Kerman Province, south-eastern Iran, told Fars on November 16, “The prisons of Kerman Province were the most populated ones; we have 7,883 prisoners. According to international estimates, the normal figure is about 143 prisoners for every 100,000 inhabitants. Yet in our province, this figure reaches 320 prisoners for every 100,000”.
