Pressures mount on political prisoners on brink of student uprising

NCRI – According to obtained reports, the clerical regime has stepped up psychological and physical pressures and restrictions on political prisoners, creating a worrying situation for the prisoners' health.

Political prisoner Behrouz Javid Tehrani has been transferred to solitary confinement at Gohardasht prison since June 1. The regime's agents are planning to keep him there on the brink of the July 8, 1999 student uprising for an unknown period of time.

Tehrani was arrested on July 8, 1999 during a raid against the University of Tehran's dormitory by regime agents when he was just 19 years old.

Hamed Rouhinezhad, who suffers from severe multiple sclerosis and is facing major physical complications including inability to use his hands and sight problems, has been prevented from being transferred to hospital or take medications provided by his family.

The clerical regime has also increased pressures on political inmates held at the Women Ward of Evin prison. Even with temperatures as high as 40 degrees Celsius, prisoners are held in large numbers in cells without air conditioning. Water has been continuously cut off. The political prisoners, including female inmates, have been severely poisoned and the regime's agents refuse to provide them with treatment.
