Mullahs continue attacks on UN Iran Rights Rapporteur

Iran’s mullahs are calling for UN Human Rights Rapporteur Ahmad Shaheed to be put on trial for ‘lying’ and questioning the independence of the regime’s judiciary.

The demand is the latest in a series of personal attacks on the Dr. Shaheed by Iranian regime officials.

Ebrahim Raisi, the First Deputy of the regime’s judiciary, said: “The Human Rights Rapporteur has lied several times in his report about Iran. He has questioned the independence of Iran’s judiciary and if there were a just court, this rapporteur should have been tried.”

His comments were reported by Iran’s state-run Fars news agency on January 30.

Mullah Raisi, one of the officials responsible for the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988, is now one of the most influential mullahs’ in the judiciary.

Javad Larijani, another senior judiciary official, was also reported by the state-run Tasnim news agency on January 27 as saying: “The United Nations Rapporteur Ahmad Shaheed is a wicked fool.”

He added: “Today, those who are considered as human rights defenders, are tainted with terrorist connections. Human rights defender is a fake title and has no basis in United Nations documents.”

The personal attacks on Ahmed Shaheed intensified after he sent an early draft of his public reports to Iran to give Iranian officials time to respond.
