Iranians in Berlin on hunger strike in solidarity with Iran’s political prisoners

NCRI – Iranians residing in Germany are on Day 2 of a three-day hunger strike and rally in Berlin urging the German government to predicate any improvement of its relationship with the Iranian regime to a halt to executions and human rights abuses.

Gathered next to Berlin’s famous Brandenburg Gate, they called for the prosecution of officials of the mullahs’ regime for crimes against humanity in Iran over their role in the 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners, primarily affiliated to the principle Iranian opposition group, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK).

The protesters held a symbolic mock execution and they chanted slogans in support of democracy and human rights in Iran.

The Iranians waved Iran’s tri–color flag and the emblem of the PMOI (MEK), and they held up banners which read “No to executions” in Iran.

Some protesters said they are on a three-day hunger strike to draw attention to the plight of political prisoners in Iran and in remembrance of the 30,000 martyrs who were massacred in the summer of 1988.

The rally will continue in central Berlin on Saturday.
