Iranian regime tightens media controls ahead of election

NCRI – The Iranian regime is to tighten its monitoring and control of the media ahead of the June presidential election.

The move is the latest in a series of tough new measures being imposed by paranoid rulers desperate to crush any dissent.

Mohammad Jafar Mohammadzadeh, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, said his department would be working with local media in the run up to the ballot.

He told the state-run Fars news agency: “The media have two major responsibilities. They must mobilize the people to go to the ballots. And they must be help the people to ensure they vote for the best candidate.

“The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance will be monitoring this during the elections. There are two issues to be monitored. One is monitoring of the quality of publishing, and the other is monitoring of media’s compatibility with the law.

He added: “The monitoring of the media by this office will be intensified during the next two months. But we hope that the media will be able to control itself and publish the news correctly. In this way, there would not be any control and monitoring needed.”
