Iran: Sunnis sentenced to prison and lashes for ‘insulting regime’

Four Sunni muslims have been sentenced to 69 months in prison with flogging and physical punishment for ‘insulting Iran’s Supreme Leader, anti-government propaganda and possessing a satellite dish.’

The sentence was handed down by the regime’s Revolutionary Court in the northern province of Golestan, which also ordered the men from the Turkmen minority to pay a fine of more than three million riyals.

Daniel Babayani, Habibollah Bikzadeh, Nematollah Kami and Abdulnaser Khormali were all arrested in September of 2013 and held in solitary confinement, where they were tortured before being put on trial this month. Several other Sunnis including a woman were also arrested at the same time on similar charges.
