Iran: Regime claims on closure of death camp a lie; Kahrizak torture chamber still operational

NCRI – A prisoner recently released from the Kahrizak death camp has revealed that the camp is still operational. He added that the screams of prisoners under torture are still being heard.

After revelations about a small portion of the tortures carried out in Tehran’s Evin prison, the Kahrizak death camp and other torture chambers run by the clerical regime, the regime resorted to propagating lies and claiming that it had closed down the Kahrizak torture chamber and arrested a number of its officials.

However, there are still hundreds of prisoners incarcerated under inhuman conditions at a large number of secret detention centers at the notorious torture chamber. They were arrested during the recent nationwide uprising for freedom in Iran.

According to the witness, the 72 individuals in his cell are still being held at Kahrizak. He recounted his arrest and the tortures imposed on him and others he witnessed during the 58 days of his detention, and added that he spent his days in an airtight container underground along with 74 other individuals. The prisoners suffer greatly from extreme hunger and illnesses resulting from the lack of a minimum degree of medical care and hygiene.

The recently released prisoner also revealed that in order to gain false confessions from him, Iranian regime agents at Kahrizak threatened him with raping his son. He was interrogated 58 times in as many days in the course of his detention, he added.
