NCRI – The number of inmates killed during the August 4 blaze in a prison in Iran, due to authorities preventing efforts to save them, is actually much higher than the figures published in the state run media outlets.
Reports from inside Iran indicate that with another inmate dying due to severe burns on Friday, the number of victims who lost their lives in Shahr-e Kord prison blaze has reached to at least 40.
The state-run media had reported that only 11 inmates have died.
Coinciding with Hassan Rouhani’s visit to this city, In order to crackdown on the inmates, prison authorities kept the prison doors closed while the fire had erupted which lead to many being killed in the blaze.
The report from inside the regime said that on the day of the incident prison authorities prevented fire trucks entering into the prison and three hours later they were they finally allowed to enter but still prevented them from.
The Iranian Resistance’s President-elect, Mrs Maryam Rajavi, urged international organizations and human rights bodies on August 6 to condemn the deliberate burning of the prisoners and called for the dispatch of a fact-finding mission to investigate the catastrophic living conditions in prisons in Iran.
She said: “This unprecedented atrocity is just one example of the calamities the murderers ruling Iran have imposed on prisoners for many years. The barbarians ruling Iran should be shunned by civilized nations and should face justice for their countless atrocities.”
