Iran: Political Prisoners Write a Letter to Asma Jahangir

Ebrahim-Firouzi-khaled

NCRI – In a letter to Mrs. Asma Jahangir, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, political prisoners ‘Khaled Hardani’ and ‘Ebrahim Firouzi’ have demanded that any relations with the Iranian regime be conditional on the regime’s stopping the executions and human rights violations.

The letter reads:

Hello and many greetings to Your Excellency and your colleagues at the United Nations

There’s been nearly four decades of repression, torture, trial, imprisonment, and execution practiced against followers of all the religions in Iran, while, sadly, the international community and human rights organizations have remained silent. For more than 64 times the Iranian regime has been condemned at the UN for its gross and systematic violation of human rights, record executions, and ignoring the legitimate rights of religious minorities. Unfortunately, the condemnations have never been considered as a binding statement, so that Article 18 of the Human Rights Charter has neither been secured nor implemented.

Dozens of Sunni prisoners of conscience were executed last year, with dozens more Christians and Baha’is currently kept in prison while being deprived of their least legal rights.

Sunni clerics in Sistan and Baluchestan province are arrested and sent to detention centers and torture places, while an ongoing devaluation of religious teachings has been underway. The regime, however, is taking advantage of double standards, thus deceiving the world public opinion.

We, the prisoners of Rajaee Shahr prison in Karaj, ask and expect the human rights organizations that any kind of relations with the Iranian regime be conditional on the regime’s fully stopping the executions and violations of human rights, its practical commitment to fully respect the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the rights of religious minorities, and release of all prisoners of conscience.

Thank you very much

Prisoners of conscience in Rajaee Shahr Prison, Karaj

Khaled Hardani, Ebrahim Firouzi
