Iran: Political prisoner remembers the regime’s massacre of 30,000 in 1988

NCRI – Political prisoner Ali Moazzi has spoken of the barbaric massacre of tens of thousands of political prisoners on the 25th anniversary of the genocide.

Mr Moazzi, a PMOI (MEK) supporter being held in Karaj Central Prison, said in a statement: “The bloodthirsty Khomeini who was preparing himself to drink from the chalice of poison of the truce in the Iran-Iraq war, resorted to transferring the political prisoners of that era and terminated all prisoners’ visits to pave the way for a humanitarian catastrophe; the renowned 1988 massacre in prisons throughout the country.

“Then, after drinking the poison, to take revenge and as a provision, he quietly hanged thousands upon thousands prisoners of the PMOI and other struggling groups. Some of those prisoners had even completed their prison sentences. And when head of judiciary was briefed about the procedure for townships, he ordered that the same procedure be implemented there and advised functionaries to act swiftly.

“Bullets rained down in Evin swimming pool and the corpses of martyrs were buried in mass graves in Khavaran and elsewhere as they arrived in convoy after convoy.

“Worldly, eternal and historical detriment awaits those who knew what was unfolding but kept silent then and ever since, including Mir Hossein Moussavi who was then the responsible official and the Prime Minister to the regime. People like him should at least have felt some guilt; a shame and abhorrence that would have been declared to the people.

“Of course, the scale of that catastrophe is yet to be disclosed and only parts of it have been revealed by the few witnesses who survived, or otherwise disclosed by others involved in that massacre. I hail the souls of those innumerable martyrs and we pray for the victory of Iranian people’s democratic and just resistance that much blood has been spilled for.”
