NCRI – The widespread arbitrary arrest and imprisonment of labor and student activists is continuing across Iran in the wake of the recent presidential election.

In Tehran, five workers at the city’s Kiyan tire factory were summoned to a police station and arrested for protesting at being filmed at work by a state security agent.

In Sanandaj, labor union coordinator Hamed Mahmoudi-Nejad was sentenced to one year probation by the town’s Revolutionary Court for alleged anti-government activities and propaganda – after already serving 19 days behind bars in March.

Student activist and journalist Qasem Ahmadi was also sentenced to 4 years imprisonment with physical punishment by the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad, in Kurdistan.

Ahmadi, who was editor of the students’ seasonal newspaper ‘Joraf’ at Tehran University, was arrested on March 6 along with brothers Khosro and Masoud Kordpour in Mahabad and released on a 500 million Rials bail after spending 16 days in custody.

Political prisoner Borhan Asgharian, 32, has been sentenced to five year in Gohardasht Prison, Karaj, after being accused by notorious Judge Moqiseh of ‘acting against national security’.
