Iran: Persecution of PMOI (MEK) supporter continues in Iran prisons

Evin Prison in TerhranIranian political prisoner Reza Akbari Monfared has become the latest supporter of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) to be jailed solely for having relatives at Camp Liberty in Iraq.

Mr Monfared, who was arrested in 2012, was sentenced to five and half years. His sister, Maryam Akbari Monfared, a 39-year-old mother of 3 is also currently serves a 15-year sentence in Evin prison following her arrest in 2010.

Four members of the same family, named as Alireza, aged 20, and Gholamreza, aged 26, were executed in 1981 and 1985. Roghiyeh, 30 and Abdolreza, 23, were executed in 1988 in the massacre of political prisoners.

The Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) of the Iranian regime routinely arrests the family and supporters of the PMOI (MEK) in order to exert pressure on Camp Liberty residents.

On February 10, a number of political prisoners in Ward 209 of Evin prison, including fellow Arab speaking prisoners Abdolali Delf Louaimi and Kazem Bouozar, and Amir Dourbin Ghaziani, were transferred to Ward 350 of Evin.

The two Arab prisoners were charged with separatism and Amir Dourbin Ghaziani was arrested and imprisoned for supporting the PMOI (MEK) , according to reports.

Political prisoner Ali Salanpour, also in Ward 350 of Evin, is suffering from shoulder and head in juries due to torture by prison guards. He was taken to hospital on February 12, but returned to the prison without treatment on the orders of prison guards.
