Iran: Deprived of medical care, female political prisoner loses eye sight

Ms. Kobra Banazadeh AmirkhiziNCRI – A political prisoner at the notorious Evin prison in Tehran has lost one of her eyes and risks losing the other after she was deprived of medical care in prison.

According to her family, Ms. Kobra Banazadeh Amirkhizi, 56, had to undergo surgery in May in accordance with medical opinion, but after prison officials refused, she lost her eye. One of the prison officials directly involved in the matter is Hassan Zare Dehnavi.

Ms. Banazadeh was transferred to the horrific Gohardasht prison in Karaj last week.

Ms. Amirkhizi, from a distinguished family in Tehran that has had a number of its members executed by the mullahs’ regime, is mother to a resident of Camp Ashraf in Iraq, where some 3,500 members of the main Iranian opposition group, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Currently two of her brothers, Hamid and Asghar Banazadeh, are also imprisoned in Ward 4 of Gohardasht prison after trying to visit their relatives in Camp Ashraf. They have been sentenced to two years in prison for attempting to meet their family members in Ashraf.

Another member of this family, Ms. Shahla Zarrinfar, was sentenced to one year in prison also for trying to meet her loved ones in Camp Ashraf.
