Iran: Crackdown ahead of Friday’s elections – AI briefing

NCRI – The Iranian regime has intensified a human rights clampdown ahead of Friday’s presidential election, Amnesty International said in a new briefing .
The briefing published by the rights group documents dozens of arbitrary arrests and other human rights abuses in the run-up to election day on 14 June.

Those targeted include journalists, political activists, trade unionists, advocates of greater rights for Iran’s religious and ethnic minorities, and students, Amnesty International said.

‘The escalation in repression is an outrageous attempt by the Iranian authorities to silence critics ahead of the presidential election,’ said Philip Luthe, Middle East and North Africa Programme Director at Amnesty International
