Iran: At least 11 die in Shahr-e Kord prison fire

NCRI – At least eleven inmates killed in a fire that broke out in a prison in city of Shahr-e Koord in Iran on Monday.

The head of the Iranian regime’s judiciary in Charmahal and Bakhtiari province claimed that “The cause of death of these inmates have been suffocation due to a fire that broke out at 14:00 local time in Shahre-e Kord Prison,” state-run media outlets reported.

Head of the State Prisons Organization confirmed the death of 11 inmates.

State-run media outlets reported that several people were also injured in the incident.

The incidents occurs as for the past few days the prisoner have been protesting dire conditions in prison.

According to the reports received, the inmates were killed in the fire as the prison guards locked the main doors of the jail and prevented providing assistance to the prisoners when the fire occurred.
