Iran: Air force hospital sanitation workers walkout

hospital-workers-iran150NCRI – On Monday, sanitation workers of the air force hospital walked out in protest over their low pay in Tehran, according to the Resistance sources in Iran.

"We have the hardest and most important job at the hospital which is to keep everything clean and sanitized in the environment," said a striking worker.

"The hospital management will know how important our job is now," she added. Workers refusing to clean up the hospital made a huge problem for the entire facility by Monday afternoon.

The sanitation workers at the air force hospital are making 200,000 Tomans (roughly $200) a month. Most of the striking workers are not covered by the national heath insurance.

"We do just about everything around the hospital but they [management] just don’t see it," said another worker.

He added, "We didn't go to work today so they [management] get a feeling of what it is like having all that garbage around and no one there to clean it."

"I don't know if doctor Lashgari is hearing us [referring to the hospital's director]," said the same worker in anger.

In the past year, it has been the workers who are facing pay cuts by the hand picked managements in the usually privatized factories. However, it is rapidly catching up with the other sectors of the Iranian work force.
Over past year thousands of workers went on strike over unpaid salaries in major Iranian factories such as Sugar Cane factory in the southern city of Shoosh, Iran Khodro and Kiyan-tire in suburban Tehran.
