Iran: A prisoner soon will face gallows in Isfahan

An IRGC agent in IranNCRI – A prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement on Saturday in preparation to face gallows soon in the central city of Isfahan, according to right groups in Iran.

The 20-year-old man identified as Gholamreza Saeedi is an Afghan national accused of murder two years ago.

In a similar move, on October 15, the state-run television Jam-e-Jam reported that eight prisoners would soon face gallows in the notorious Tehran Evin prison. They were separated from the rest of inmates a day earlier to prepare for their death sentences.

On October 21, The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his concern over the rights of women and minorities in Iran, as well as over the death penalty, including juvenile executions and stoning, in a new report to the General Assembly on the country’s human rights situation.

The report said there has been a sudden surge of executions in recent months, and the UN Human Rights Committee has sounded the alarm over the “extremely high number of death sentences, many resulting from trials in which the guarantees of due process of law had not been properly applied.”
