Iran: A new suppressive measure, installation of surveillance cameras in Tehran University

NCRI – Tehran University surounded by security forcesThis time surveillance cameras caused much commotion in Iran’s turbulent Tehran University.

The university security unit which is a branch of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) on campus claimed that new cameras are meant to stop immoral offences — a term usually used by the mullahs’ regime to describe its suspicions of the relationship between male and female students. However such measures are doomed to failure in Iranian schools since the students are under constant monitoring by different security apparatus in Iran.

Since Ahmadinejad’s ascendancy to power in 2005, he has been the subject of much student protests for his suppressive student polices.

Following three days of protests by Tehran university students last month demanding resignation of the school’s chancellor, Abbasali Amid Zanjani, he was replaced on Monday. Students had threatened to begin an unlimited demonstration if he was not sacked.
